Species Description

Widespread and fairly common in the South becoming more scattered in the North up to the Eastern coast of Scotland. Habitat includes: Short vegetation and bare ground in sunny places such as grassland, meadows, scrub, woodland rides, road side verges, coast, gardens, parks, allotments, cemeteries, wasteland etc. Hosts: Andrena nigroaenea, Andrena pubescens, Andrena thoracica and possibly also Andrena scotica. Flight period: April to June (sometimes has a second generation so may be seen later into July and August). Life story: cleptoparasitic / cuckoo species (lays its eggs in the nests of its host). Diet: Adults = nectar from various flowers including Daisies.
