Species Description
Widespread in the North and West, being more scattered in the East. It is most common in Scotland. Habitats include: Free-draining, acidic (occasionally basic) soils in places such as woodland, hedge banks, heaths, banks, coastal cliff-tops, cliff ledges, rocks by waterfalls, rocky stream-sides, gullies, montane grass-heath, fell-field etc. Other names include: European Goldenrod, Woundwort, Aaron's rod, Common Goldenrod. There's 1 subspecies in the UK: Solidago virgaurea subsp. virgaurea. Height: Up to 1 m. Growing habit: Perennial. In lowland Britain it is in decline due to habitat loss. Flowers: June to September.
