Species Description
Widespread but local throughout the UK (most common in the South West) but absent from much of the North and often only found as single plants. Habitat includes: shaded places with calcareous soil such as woodland, open scrub and sometimes hedgebanks. Flowers: December to March. Height: Up to 1.5 m. It is one of our very few native species which is supposed to start flowering in early winter. It's tiny green flowers are apparently pollinated by small beetles, moths and flies.
