Species Description
Widespread and locally common throughout England and Wales becoming scattered in Scotland. Habitat includes: woodland, parks, gardens, allotments, churchyards, hedgerows, wasteland etc. Life story: The larvae develop in decomposing substances such as compost, grass cuttings, dung, manure etc. Flight period: March to October. Females sometimes congregate around compost heaps.
