Species Description
Widespread but uncommon throughout the Southern half of the UK being found mainly in Wales and Western England. Very sparse further North. Habitat includes: meadows, hedgerows, woodland edge, gardens, parks, allotments, churchyards, sports grounds / playing fields etc. Length: 8 - 9 mm. Flight period: June to August. Life story: Flies both day and night, particularly during June and early July when they are seeking for mates. Larvae feed on the roots of various plant species including: grasses.
