Species Description

Common and widespread throughout the UK but becoming scarcer in the north. Habitat includes: Dry, bare places such as gardens, parks, allotments, churchyards, arable fields, wasteland etc. Length: 8.5 - 12 mm. Life story: Adults are active during the day. Diet: Larvae feed on small soil invertebrates, Adults feed on seeds such as grasses, umbellifers and members of the Asteracea family.
