Species Description
Common and widespread throughout the Southern half of the UK up to Southern Scotland. Habitat includes: hedgerows, woodland edge / margines. Life story: Larvae live in rotting wood for 2 - 3 years before they emerge as adults in May. Diet: Adults: Nectar and pollen from Hawthorn, Umbellifers, Brambles, thistles, Larvae: rotten wood (various broadleaved trees and some conifers). Flight period: May to September. Length: Up to 20 mm.
