Species Description

True status is unknown but likely to be widespread and fairly common. Habitat includes: hedgerows, woodland, scrub, gardens, parks, allotments, churchyards, meadows, grassland etc. Flight period: March to November. Length: 8 - 16 mm. ID: Female is almost identical to Ichneumon confusor whom has more yellow legs than extentorius.

Ichneumon suspiciosus and Ichneumon albiger are also virtually identical.

Perkins key entry: Flagellum with 43-44 flagellomeres and completely black with short, narrow tyloids on 6-15, 17, face (almost) completely yellow but clypeus often black at medial apex; T2-3 yellow; hind tibiae yellow with apical 0.33 black, hind tarsi (including fifth segment) completely pale . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . I. terminatorius Gravenhorst, 1820 . This approx 18mm (quite big for genus), 44+44 flagellum, short narrow Tyloids on F6-15(16) - as is often the case tyloid on 16 is there but smaller, rear tarsi are all pale, T2&3 yellow, and the face is all yellow inc clypeus.

Extremely most likely:

Ichneumon albiger / Br = yes, locality = no - Female has white on the last two turgids. / Ichneumon confusor / Br = yes, locality = no - Female has white on the last two turgids and legs are more yellow. / Ichneumon extensorius / Br = yes, locality = no - Female has white on the last two turgids and legs are more orange. /
