Species Description
Fairly common and widespread throughout the UK especially in the Midlands and South Wales. Habitat includes: Anywhere where Dog Rose's are found including gardens, parks, allotments, churchyards, hedgerows, woodland, fields, old quarries, rock faces, scrub, roadside verges, Railway sides, wasteland etc. Other names include: Robin's Pincushion. Flight period: May onwards. Length: Males (rare) = 3 mm, Females = 4 mm. Life story: Larvae overwinter in the gall emerging as adults in the spring. They are parthenogenetic (no Males are needed).
