Species Description
Widespread and locally frequent in the South. Habitat includes: sandy or well-drained places such as coasts, exposed river banks, gardens etc. Flight period: June to early September (peaking in July). Life story: Nest are dug in well-drained often sandy soils exposed to the sun. Prey items: Philaenus spumarius (Common Froghopper), Neophilaenus spp., Homoptera, Cercopidae. Flowers visited: Wild Parsnip (Pastinaca sativa), Hogweed (Heracleum sphondylium), Fennel (Foeniculum vulgare), Hawkweeds (Hieracium species) and Angelica.
