Species Description
Scattered and widespread throughout the UK but mainly in the South. Habitat includes: gardens, parks, allotments, churchyards etc. Growing habit: Bulbous Perennial. Height: Up to 50 cm. Flowers: January to April.

Stems with the 2 sharp edges entire throughout; flowers (1)2-4; spathe mostly 30-50 x 4-7mm; tepals 10-15mm; usually flowers (Jan)Feb-Apr, as leaves appear; (2n=22). Neophyte-naturalised; more common in gardens and escape than ssp. aestivum, naturalised in damp places and rough ground; scattered through British Isles from Channel Islands to Outer Hebrides; West Mediterranean. Slenderer and smaller than ssp. aestivum.
