Species Description
Widespread and commonly planted throughout the UK.

Narcissus hispanicus Gouan (N. pseudonarcissus ssp. major (Curtis) Baker) - Spanish Daffodil.
Differs from N. pseudonarcissus in tepals of same colour as corona (mid to deep yellow), 18-40(60)mm; (2n=14-18). Neophyte-naturalised; scattered over Britain, Isle of Man and Channel Islands, County Waterford, probably much under-recorded; South West Europe. Cultivars of many colour variations exist.
Key:
- Tepals patent to erecto-patent or very slightly reflexed
- All 6 stamens borne at same level close to base of corolla
- Corona usually >10mm, if <10mm then longer than tepals, about as long as to much longer than wide; stamens all of same length or more or less so; hypanthial tube usually distinctly widening towards apex, sometimes more or less parallel-sided
- Tepals ovate-lanceolate or triangular-ovate to suborbicular, ≥5mm wide
- Corona slightly shorter to longer than tepals; hypanthial tube <2x as long as greatest width
- Hypanthial tube 15-25mm
- Tepals and corona more or less same colour
- Corona yellow to deep yellow
- Pedicel mostly >15mm; leaves ≤50 x 1.5cm; tepals as long as corona, twisted at base
