Species Description
Widespread but occasional in the Southern half of the UK. Much more rare in the North. Habitat includes: On moist loamy soil, in shaded places such as wasteland, woodland, hedgerows, parks, gardens, allotments, churchyards etc. Growing habit: Aestivating, long-lived, tuberous Perennial. Flowers: August to November. Other names include: Ivy-leaved cyclamen, Cyclamen neapolitanum (old name). Seed dispersal: Ants. Native to Southern Europe and Western Turkey. Introduced to Britain before 1596 and was first recorded in the wild as early as 1597.
