Species Description
Widespread but local in the South, very scattered and scarce in the North. Habitat includes: Well-drained, base-rich soils (sticky calcareous clays that are wet in winter but baked dry in summer) grassland, roadside verges, wasteland, churchyards, dunes, banks, old quarries etc. Flowers: May to August. Growing habit: Perennial. Other names include: Wild Sage. It is in decline due to changes in land use (habitat loss).
