More common of the 2 subspecies. Tetraploid (four sets of chromosomes)

More branched, with the branches subtending an angle with the main stem of about 50° the leaves usually possessing transparent grands; the sepals narrower at only 1.2 to 2 mm wide with the tip toothed; black glands on petals mainly as flat lines. Much more common than ssp. maculatum and locally frequent. This sub-species is often treated as a separate species!
