Species Description
Widespread but local and mainly in the South. Habitat includes: dry, open, sunny places on chalk and limestone (prefers S. facing) such as pastures, rock ledges, limestone cliffs, bare chalk, new road cuttings, chalk grassland etc. Other names include: 'unshoe-the-horse. It is the sole food plant of the Chalkhill Blue (Polyommatus coridon) and Adonis blue (Polyommatus bellargus) caterpillars. Flowers: April to July. Perennial, low spreading plant.
