Species Description

Other names include: Senecio cineraria x jacobaea = S. x albescens (old name). Found growing where Common Ragwort and Silver Ragwort meet. ID: It is best to see when in flower. The hybrid is intermediate in hairiness, leaf-shape and habitat but has hairy disc-achenes (seed parachute hairs) as does Common Ragwort.

My notes:

I found this young plant growing about half a metre away from a Common Ragwort plant of the same age. It definitely looks like an intermediate between the two species. The oldest leaves of this hybrid are smooth-green on top and silver / hoary beneath. The newer leaves are silver / hoary on both sides and as it grows is becoming more similar in appearance to that of Silver Ragwort.

Jacobaea maritima (Silver Ragwort) Looks very similar to centaurea cineraria (Silver Knapweed)
