Species Description

Simplex Group. Probably var. macrocarpa Albert and more specifically C. druceana (E.B. Almq.) E.B. Almq. which is synonymous with brachycarpa and bifida - mentioned in White (1912) from Kingsweston. Has hairy, mid-green, simple to somewhat divided basal leaves but never pinnate and large capsules. A robust plant which is quite distinctive. Sepals green with white margins, glabrous, petals broad and almost rounded, scarcely exceeding sepals. This is probably the same thing - labelled as var. integrifolia as is this and this.

Distinctive. Robust. Almost certainly referable to C. drucei. Plant to c. 45 cm tall, leaf rosette medium, c.15 cm across. Leaves entire and dentate, sometimes slightly divided, mid-green, bristly hairy with numerous simple and stellate hairs. Leaves lanceolate, less than or equal to c. 10 cm, bluntly pointed at apex, petiole medium. Stem leaves 3, simple-sagittate, dentate, less than or equal to c. 9 cm, auricles c. 10 mm. Stem green, slightly pruinose, hairy at base with stellate and simple hairs, becoming very sparse further up the stem, c. 3 mm in width at the base to c. 1 mm towards the apex. Pedicels spreading-patent, mostly c. 1.5 cm, double the length of the capsules, covered and clothed like the upper stem. Capsules straight-sided to slightly scoliotic, cardiac with an attenuate base, c. 8 x 6.5 mm, notch deep, widely angled, style not exceeding it. Lobes triangular-ovate, upwardly outwardly directed, green, sometimes slightly bronzy infused in sun, lobe turning point towards outer edge. Flowers c. 2 mm across, petals white, obovate, scarcely exceeding sepals. Sepals green, white-margined, more or less glabrous with the occasional hair.
