Species Description
Common and widespread throughout the UK as a planted tree but often escapes into the wild. Habitat includes: gardens, parks, allotments, cemeteries, streets, woodland, road sides, hedgerows etc. Flowers: May to June (in the South - late April). Height: Up to 40 m. Lifespan: around 300 years. Deciduous. Introduced to the UK from Turkey in the late 16th century. Other names include: European Horse Chestnut, Buckeye, Conker Tree, Spanish Chestnut.
