Species Description
Very distinctive leaf-shape. Leaves on first-year shoots deeply 7-lobed, basal lobe cut to midrib and virtually separated by a distinct interlobe, base more or less truncate with incurved margins, triangular ovate in outline, slightly broader than long, less than or = to c. 5 x 6 - 7 x 8 cm. Petioles c. 2 - 3 cm long. Stipules dove-wing-shaped, deeply serrate, c. 2 - 3 cm long. Flowers c. 17-20 mm across. Stamens 15-17-19-20. Style sometimes 2. Flowers in bunches of 8-13-15-20-21. Hypanthium and apex of pedicels c. 15-18mm, hairy, becoming sparsely so further down. Peduncles glabrous suffusing dull purplish-brown in sun. Stipules on flowering shoots simple, scythe-shaped. Flowers widely spread. Petals 7-8 mm, broadly obovate to subrotund, held patent, incurved. Disc c. 4.5 mm across. Flowers white.
