Species Description

A frequent species in the southern half of the UK but more localised further north and said not to be native there. It is commonly planted in forestry, parks and gardens (often as the purple-leaved cultivar 'purpurea', otherwise known as the Copper Beech). Habitat includes: woodland - usually on chalk or limestone but occasionally on sandstone.
