Species Description
Widespread but local and patchy throughout the UK; being most common just North of Manchester and expanding across to the North East Coast, South East Scotland, around Stoke-on-Trent, the Bristol Region and South East Anglia; scattered elsewhere. Habitat includes: Heavy soils in places such as field margins, hedgerows, scrub, woodland, roadside verges, railway banks, coasts etc. The name derives from 'Eboracum', a fort and city in Roman Britain, which evolved into York. The common name should be York or Yorkshire Bramble.
