Species Description

Widespread but scattered and generally scarce with most records coming from England. It is thought to be increasing. Habitat includes: woodland, hedgebanks, gardens, churchyards etc. Food Plant: Lady Fern (Athyrium filix-femina), Male Fern (Dryopteris filix-mas), Soft-shield Fern (Polystichum setiferum), Bracken (Pteridium aquilinum) and probably other related species. Length: 4 - 6 mm. Flight period: May to August. Females are distinguished from the other 3 British species by the yellow mark on the last tergite.
