Species Description
Widespread but local throughout the UK and mainly in the South. It is probably more common than thought due to its food plant's status and its elusive nature. Habitat includes: Flower-rich places with the food plant Ox-eye Daisy such as meadows, grassland, coasts, wasteland, churchyards, parks, gardens, allotments, field margins roadside verges etc. Wingspan: 11 - 16 mm. Flight period: May to June. Diet: Larvae = Ox-eye Daisy root stock. ID: Has 3 - 5 narrow, silver-grey slashes along the front edge of the forewings, some black spots along the outer edge that are drawn out to short longitudinal marks (those in related species are often rounder). The hindwings are brown, not markedly lighter than the forewing.
