Species Description
Widespread but local in the south; scarcer in the North. Habitat includes: ponds, lakes, marshes, wetlands, wet meadows, ditches, dykes, rhynes, woodland margins etc. Flight period: May to September. Diet: Nectar and pollen from mainly Umbellifer flowers. Larvae develop in wet mud or shallow water more or less neutral conditions.
