Species Description
Common and widespread throughout the UK but mainly in the South and especially so in Wales. Habitat includes: Woodland etc. Life story: larvae develop in tree rot holes and other crevices in trees that become filled with water and wet detritus but also in wet cow dung / compost heaps etc. Flight period: April to October (peaks in July / August). Individuals first to emerge visit blossoms such as Blackthorn and Cherry, summer generations favour umbellifer and bramble, autumn - Ivy flowers.
