Species Description

Widespread in the South but uncommon and local. Once limited to the South coast It is increasingly coming inland and increasing its range due to climate change. Habitat includes: Coastal grazing marsh, saltmarsh edge, dune slacks, bogs, fens, Wet heaths, carr, wetlands, wasteland, reedbeds, floodplains, pond / lake margins, ditches, stream sides, river banks etc. Length: 11 - 18 mm. Life story: Nymphs emerge in May and June. Adults occur from July and August until mid-October. Diet: Omnivorous, feeding on insects, seed heads, buds and flowers of grasses, rushes and sedges.
