Species Description
Widespread and fairly frequent throughout the UK except for parts of North and West Scotland where it is scattered. Habitat includes: Dry, unimproved, species-rich, well-grazed grassland on infertile, calcareous soils such as well-drained slopes, old meadows / pastures (neutral and sometimes acidic), dry fens, soligenous mires etc. Flowers: June to July. Height: 15 - 40 cm. Other names include: Quaking Grass, Common Quaking Grass, Cow-quake, Didder, Dithering-grass, Dodder-grass, Doddering Dillies, Doddle-grass, Earthquakes, Jiggle-joggles, Jockey-grass, Lady's-hair, Maidenhair-grass, Pearl Grass, Quakers, Quakers-and-shakers, Shaking-grass, Tottergrass, Wag-wantons, Tithering-grass, Trimmling jockey's, Dithery dock, Toddling grass. Growing habit: Rhizomatous Perennial.
