Species Description
Widespread and fairly common throughout the UK, especially so around Wales and the Midlands. Habitat includes: Flower-rich places such as meadows, hedgerows, fields, roadside verges etc. Life story: Larvae live in leaf matter and damp soil where they feed on other invertebrates. Adults are omnivores, feeding predating other insects as well as nectar from a range of flowers (they particularly like buttercups). Flight period: April to July. Length: 9 mm.
