Species Description

Fairly frequent in the Southern half of the UK but not common. Habitat includes: places where its host is found e.g. gardens, parks, allotments, cemeteries, wasteland, scrub, coasts, grassland. Life cycle: This species is a cleptoparasite meaning it lays its eggs in the nests of solitary bees and wasps. When the larvae hatch, they eat the food provided by the adult bee or wasp for its own larvae. Flight period: May to August.
