Species Description
Scattered and rare along a band from Wales to the far North East of England and just into Scotland with two outliers 1 in South Somerset and the other in the far North of Scotland; most common in Monmouthshire and West Gloucestershire. Habitat includes: Limestone rocks and walls.

Ssp. pachyrachis (Christ) Lovis & Reichst.
Differs from ssp. quadrivalens in leaves smaller and more delicate, usually appressed to rock, with rigid, fragile petiole and rachis; (2n=144). Limestone rocks and walls; West Gloucestershire and Breconshire to Cheshire, probably elsewhere on limestone in West Britain, Mid West Yorkshire, South Northmberland, old unconfirmed records for Wales and County Clare.
