Species Description
Widespread but local throughout the Southern half of the UK but absent from much of Wales, Northern and Eastern England. Habitat includes: chalk / limestone grassland, woodland rides and openings, coasts, roadside verges, railway banks, old quarries, wasteland etc. Wingspan: 53-58 mm. Flight period: June to September. Larval food plant: Various grasses including Red Fescue (Festuca rubra), Sheep's-fescue (F. ovina), Yorkshire-fog (Holcus lanatus), Tor-grass (Brachypodium pinnatum) and probably others may be used.
