Species Description

Very common and widespread throughout the UK. Habitat includes: gardens, allotments, church yards, grassland, meadows, scrub, roadside verges. Other names include: Spittle bugs. You often see spit like stuff on the leaf axel of various plants this is called 'Cuckoo-spit' it is in fact a protective substance pooped out of the larvae grubs of froghoppers used as protection from predators as it has a foul taste. Commonly seen on plants such as Lavender, Strawberries, Wood avens, Oxeye daisy, Common and Greater bird's-foot trefoil.
