Species Description

Widespread and fairly frequent in England and Wales; rare elsewhere. Habitat includes: Anywhere with Birch trees such as gardens, parks, allotments, churchyards, heathland, moors, woodland, scrub etc. Length 4.5 - 5.5 mm. Seen: All year round. A dark form of the species known as 'privignus' is found on Alder and is regarded as a distinct species by some.
