Species Description

Common and widespread throughout England and Wales, spreading North into Southern Scotland. Habitat includes: mature woodland, parks, gardens. Diet: Insects, Hazel nuts, Acorns, beech-mast, other nuts, various seeds. Length: 14 cm, Wingspan: 22.5 - 27 cm, Weight: 20 - 25g. Population: 220,000 territories. They do not travel far from where they hatched. They have long claws facing in both forwards and backwards, allowing them to climb vertically up and down trees, facing in any direction.
