Species Description

Widespread along coast throughout the UK but mainly in the North (Yorkshire onwards) where it breeds. Habitat includes: Coastal harbours, Marinas, out to sea, reservoirs, lakes etc. Other names include: Eider Duck, Common Eider. Both the UK's fastest and heaviest Duck. Diet: Various Mollusks including: Muscles. Measurements: Length = 50 - 70 cm, Wingspan = 80 - 108 cm, Weight = 1.2 - 2.8 kg. Population: 26,000 pairs, 60,000 overwintering.
