Species Description
Widespread and fairly frequent in the Southern half of the UK. Habitat includes: Anywhere with willows e.g. gardens, parks, allotments, churchyards, estates, rivers, canals, streams, ponds, lakes, marshes, roadside verges, hedgerows, woodland, scrub, wasteland etc. Life story: There are three sometimes 4 generations per year. Hibernating adults begin to emerge in the spring when foliage appears. The adults feed on the new leaves; cutting holes in them, before laying the eggs - the second generation. The third generation usually hibernate, although a few may breed to start a late fourth generation. Length: 2.5 - 4.8 mm.
