Species Description
Widespread and fairly frequent throughout England and Wales; scattered and local in Scotland. Habitat includes: Grassy places such as meadows, roadside verges, scrub, wasteland, field margins, gardens, parks, allotments, estates, churchyards etc. Length: 11 - 14 mm. Flight period: May to August (Peaks: June to July). Life story: A carnivorous beetle, hunting other insects, waiting on flowers for potential prey to arrive. The larvae hunt snails and worms.
