Species Description

Widespread and locally frequent throughout the UK. Habitat includes: gardens, parks, allotments, churchyards, woodland edge, grassland, wasteland, orchards etc. Flight period: Females = March to late October, Males = mid July to mid October. Length: Females = 5.5 - 6 mm, Males = 4.5 - 5.5 mm. Parasites: Sphecodes ephippius (Bare-saddled Blood Bee), S. puncticeps (Sickle-jawed Blood Bee).
