Species Description

Appears to be widespread but poorly recorded. Habitat includes: Hedgebanks, road verges, woodland rides, field margins etc. Seems to be associated with Red Campion - a significant proportion of online photos (including my own) show it to be hanging around the capsules and even ovipositing into the larva of the Lychnis (Hadena bicruris) moth. Probably also utilises those of Campion (Sideridis rivularis) and Marbled Coronet (Hadena confusa) which feed on the same food plant. Superficially resembles a number of species including: Pimpla melanacrias, Cylloceria melancholica, male Cryptus spiralis & C. viduatorius, Dolichomitus imperator, Hoplismenus terrificus, Ichneumon cessator, Limerodops, Pseudoamblyteles homoeocerus, Trogus lapidator.
