Species Description
Widespread but local in the South, much more scattered in the North. Habitat includes: Anywhere with lots of rotting wood and a good supply of flies such as gardens, parks, allotments, churchyards, scrub, woodland, pasture, field margins etc. Life story: Females utilise mainly old beetle borings in dead and decomposing wood (deciduous and coniferous). Females often share the same entrance hole, but construct independent systems. Flight period: Mid-May to Mid-September (Peaks: June to August).
