Species Description
Common and widespread throughout the UK. Habitat includes: gardens, parks, allotments, cemeteries, farmland, woodland, hedgerows, scrub, riversides/canals etc. Breeding usually takes place between March and April. But can be as early as February in the South and as late as May in the North. They lay strings of eggs in a with cells in a double row. Defences: They secrete a mild toxin from their glands located behind their eyes and ear part, they can urinate to get the predator to drop it, they can scream. Toads cannot jump at most they hop but they mainly crawl. Toads brumate on land.
