Species Description

Stace 4:

Scilla bithynica Boiss. - Turkish Squill.

Stems to 30cm, with (3)7-10(15) more or less erect flowers; bracts 2-3mm; tepals more or less patent, 5-10mm; (2n=12). Neophyte-naturalised; similar status to S. bifolia in churchyards and open woods and on banks; very scattered in Britain North to Midlothian, County Wexford, County Armagh; Turkey and Bulgaria.

Key:

  • Leaves 3-7, sheathing flowering stem only at base
  • Lower pedicels ≤2.5cm; bracts (1.5)2-3mm
