Species Description

Eryngium giganteum M. Bieb. - Tall Eryngo.
Stems erect, to 1.2m; basal leaves triangular-ovate, cordate at base, serrate; upper stem-leaves and bracts sharply toothed, scarcely spiny; capitula grey to bluish, oblong-ovate, 1-2.5cm across; fruits densely scaly; (2n=16). Neophyte-naturalised; grown for ornament, well naturalised on waste ground near Otley (Mid West Yorkshire) since 1986, scattered elsewhere in Britain; Caucasus.
