Species Description
Fairly frequent throughout the UK. Habitat includes: Grassy places that are often mown such as verges and lawns, in places such as grassland, road side verges, stream sides, gardens, parks, allotments, cemeteries / churchyards etc. Other names include: Round-leaved Speedwell, Creeping Speedwell, Caucasian Speedwell, Creeping Veronica, Threadstalk Speedwell, Whetzel Weed. Perennial. Flowers: April to July. Often spreads from fragments after mowing. A native of N. Turkey and the Caucasus and was cultivated in Britain by 1808 as a rock garden plant but was not widely grown until the 20th century. It was first recorded in the wild in 1838 but not reported again until 1927. Thereafter it spread rapidly.
