Species Description
Widespread but scattered throughout the South as local or casual, but scarcer in the North. Habitat includes: Sea-walls, cliffs, rough grassland, wasteland, roadside verges, allotments, hedge banks etc. Growing habit: Biennial. Flowers: May to August. Other names include: Purple Salsify, Common Salsify, Oyster Plant, Vegetable Oyster, Jerusalem Star, Jack go to bed, Goats-beard. Height: Up o 1.2 m. Native to the Mediterranean.
