Species Description
Very scattered in England (59 records according to NBN), mainly occurring just West of London. It was once widely grown in gardens but has fallen out of favour due to its toxicity. Other names include: Common Rue, 'Herb of Grace'.

Soft-wooded shrub to 1m; leaves glabrous, greyish-green, very deeply 2-3-pinnately lobed, with strong distinctive smell when crushed; flowers 15-20mm across; (2n=72-81). Neophyte-naturalised; persistent on rough ground and produces seedlings in shrubberies, waste places and wall-cracks; England, mainly South, Isle of Man; East Mediterranean.
