Species Description
Scattered and widespread throughout the UK where it can become well established. Habitat includes: damp, shaded places such as open woodland, coppices, hedgerows, especially near stream-sides where it often spreads downstream following floodwaters. Parasitises the roots of Alders, Willows, Poplars and occasionally Bamboos. Introduced into cultivation in Britain in 1888 for its attractiveness and first recorded from the wild in 1908 at Coe Fen, Cambridgeshire.
