Species Description
Common and widespread as a casual in some regions including: the South East, North East, parts of the Midlands, North West, South coast of Wales coming down to the Bristol Region, and the Eastern coast of Ireland. Elsewhere it is scattered but increasing. Habitat includes: Dockland, railways, roadside verges, tips. It is a frequent casual often associated with grain imports and bird-seed. It was formerly introduced with wool shoddy. Other names include: Short-pod Mustard, Buchanweed, Mediterranean Mustard, Brassica geniculata (old name). Growing habit: Annual / short-lived Perennial. Height: Up to 120 cm. Native to the Mediterranean basin. Cultivated in Britain by 1771, recorded from the wild by 1837.
