Species Description
Widespread and fairly frequent in the South. Scarce elsewhere. Habitat includes: Disturbed places such as field margins, wasteland, roadside verges, dunes, saltmarshes, railway banks etc. Growing habit: Rhizomatous Perennial. Flowers: April to July. Other names include: White-top, Thanet Cress. Height: Up to 90 cm. Accidentally introduced to Swansea (Glamorgan) in 1802, and subsequently to other ports. It spread rapidly in the 19th century. Native to Southern Europe and South West Asia. 2 subspecies: Lepidium draba ssp. chalepense (very scattered), Lepidium draba ssp. draba (much more common and widespread).
